BVU staff serve as trusted advisors, providing professional, high quality services to businesses and nonprofits. Their expertise includes corporate community involvement, leadership development, board governance, nonprofit management and volunteerism.

Brian Broadbent

President and Chief Executive Officer

Brian consults with nonprofit organizations on human resource matters, as well as leads BVU. He serves as President of The City Mission board and as Governance Chair for Youth Opportunities Unlimited. Brian has a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Case Western Reserve University.

Julie Clark

Senior Director, Leadership Programs

Julie oversees BVU's board matching program, where she interviews and refers professionals for positions on nonprofit boards of directors. She also provides board development consulting and management assistance services to nonprofits. Julie holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Baldwin-Wallace College and a Master of Arts in Communications Management from John Carroll University.

Roseanne Deucher

Director of the Volunteer Center

Roseanne refers direct service volunteers from businesses and the community at large to assist nonprofit organizations with short term or long term volunteer projects. She volunteers on a variety of committees and in hands-on roles at Incarnate Word Academy, previously served on the Franklin County Alcohol and Drug and Mental Health Board and has a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Sociology from John Carroll University and a Masters in Public Administration from The Ohio State University - School of Public Policy and Management.

Kerianne Hearns

Director, Services to Businesses

Kerianne works with BVU's 130+ business members to establish and enhance strong community involvement programs and engage employees at all levels in volunteerism. Kerianne serves on the Board Development Committee of Seeds of Literacy, where she previously served as Board President, and is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professional.  She has a Bachelor of Arts in English and Psychology from Miami University (Oxford, Ohio) and a Master of Arts in Social Service Administration from the University of Chicago.

Rachel Herman

Senior Director, Services to Business

Rachel works with BVU's 130+ business members to establish and enhance strong community involvement programs and engage employees at all levels in volunteerism. Rachel has previously been the Gala Co-Chair for Young Audiences of Northeast Ohio, and a member of the Friends of the Achievement Centers for Children and event committees of Cleveland Reads. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Communication with a minor in Marketing from Bowling Green State University.

Vice President, Services to Nonprofits

Ann provides education, consulting, and management assistance services to strengthen the governance and management of nonprofit organizations. She serves in leadership positions on the Board of Directors of Young Audiences of Northeast Ohio and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Ohio Buckeye Chapter. Ann is also on the Council of Editorial Advisors for BoardSource. Ann has a Bachelor of Music from Florida State University and a Master of Business Administration from Cleveland State University.

Associate Director, Educational Programs

Lauren coordinates 25+ educational forums each year which train and engage business and nonprofit leaders in the community. Lauren is currently serving on the Center for Family and Children's Success Partners young professional group. She holds a BSBA in Accounting from John Carroll University.

Melanie Meyer

Director, Communications and Technology

Melanie manages BVU's database, maintains the website, evaluates BVU's technology use and needs, and recommends and implements technology upgrades. She directs BVU communications, creating marketing materials and coordinating perception studies, survey materials and feedback from BVU's constituencies.

Denise O'Brien

Vice President, Administration

Denise manages all finances, accounting, budgeting, reporting, payroll and human resources for the organization. Denise has been with BVU since inception in 1993 and is part of the senior leadership team. Denise's education and experience in organizational development and continuous quality improvement began in the hospitality industry. She has had fifteen years of hospitality management experience with a strong start-up and pre-opening background with major hotel chains, opening hotels all over the country. She currently serves on the board of The Ohio Boychoir, as well as several volunteer committees.

Kimberly Simpson-Kee

Associate Director, Services to Nonprofits

Kimberly is responsible for coordinating BVU's services to nonprofits in the Greater Akron area, including understanding and tracking the nonprofit need for BVU services, managing the Roger Read Resource Center and planning and coordinating the implementation of educational seminars which train and engage business and nonprofit leaders in the community. Her past experience includes over seven years of healthcare marketing, program development, process improvement and community fundraising. Kimberly holds a Master's of Science in Exercise Physiology from The University of Akron.

Judy Tobin

Director, Leadership Development

Judy interviews and refers business executives for positions on nonprofit boards of directors, provides management assistance services to nonprofits in terms of volunteer consulting projects, and consults with nonprofit organizations to develop succession plans for staff leadership. Judy currently serves as Enrichment Chair of the Communion of Saints School Advisory Committee and formerly as the Second Vice President on the Board of Directors for Cleveland Women's City Club Foundation. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Communications Management from the University of Dayton.

Executive Vice President

Elizabeth provides governance training to nonprofit board members and leaders, governance consulting and management assistance services to strengthen nonprofits, and oversees BVU's Nonprofit Consulting Center. She serves on the Board of Laurel School and the Advisory Board for Campus International School. She has a Bachelor of Arts in History from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut and a Master of Arts in History from Kent State University.

Elizabeth A. Winter

Regional Vice President

Elizabeth "Beth" leads BVU's Akron office and is responsible for meeting nonprofit leaders to understand their needs for board members and consulting services, developing business memberships and matching business professionals to nonprofit board opportunities.  She serves on the boards of directors for Project: LEARN of Medina County and the Medina County Chapter of the American Red Cross.  Beth has a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Rhetoric and a Master of Arts in Communication, both from The University of Akron.
