2009 Annual Report
Needless to say, 2009 was a challenging year for all of us. From BVU's unique vantage point at the intersection of businesses, nonprofits and volunteers, we witnessed tremendous determination, innovation and generosity. BVU's 140+ business members continued to facilitate employee volunteerism, and over 83% maintained their level of philanthropy to the community from the prior year. This demonstrates the unique commitment of NEO businesses to our community despite their own internal cost cutting and belt tightening initiatives. BVU also saw a significant increase in demand from nonprofits for board members, volunteer consultants, and consulting to strengthen their management and governance. BVU's foundation funders maintained their support because they view BVU as a partner in strengthening the capacity of the community's nonprofits. In BVU's Annual Report you will see that these factors contributed to BVU providing historic levels of support to meet the community's needs in 2009.

In 2008, BVU celebrated 15 years of linking over 350 businesses to 2,000 nonprofit organizations in Northeast Ohio. These impressive numbers can be attributed to the vision of our founders, the support of foundations, strong partnerships with businesses and nonprofits and the dedication of BVU Board and staff members. In BVU's 2008 Annual Report you will see indicators such as nonprofit board elections, consultations and volunteer referrals that give you a sense of the magnitude of the impact on our community. What really matters, however, is what is behind the numbers. People are connected to meaningful volunteer opportunities, businesses are able to engage with the community and nonprofits have access to professional expertise to address their unique issues. Looking forward, there is still much to do. BVU will continue to grow and provide practical and innovative services that strengthen nonprofits' ability to achieve their missions.
